iPad Pro introduces a revolutionary LiDAR scanner with advanced depth-sensing capabilities for Augmented Reality.

Professional performance thanks to the A12Z Bionic chip

The new iPad Pro handles the most demanding tasks - from editing 4K video to designing 3D models - thanks to the new A12Z Bionic chip. The eight-core GPU, improved thermal architecture and advanced performance drivers deliver the best performance ever seen in an iPad. Combined with the eight-core CPU and powerful Neural Engine, which enables next-generation apps, this chip is uniquely capable of delivering the impressive performance of a device as thin and light as iPad Pro. And with up to 10 hours of battery life,1 ultrafast Wi-Fi connectivity2 and 60% faster Gigabit-class LTE3 with support for more LTE bands than any other tablet, customers can work and be creative without limits.

Revolutionary LiDAR scanner

The revolutionary LiDAR scanner opens up possibilities never before seen in a mobile device. It calculates distance to objects up to 5 metres away, can be used indoors and outdoors, and operates at the photon level in nanoseconds. The new iPadOS depth technology combines the depth points captured by the LiDAR scanner and data from both cameras and motion sensors with the machine vision algorithms of the A12Z Bionic chip to recreate the scene in greater detail. All elements work hand-in-hand to take augmented reality experiences to the next level on iPad Pro.
All ARKit apps offer immediate augmented reality object placement, enhanced motion capture and people occlusion. By combining the latest ARKit update with the new Scene Geometry API, developers can harness the power of the new LiDAR scanner to let their imaginations run wild like never before.
The LiDAR scanner also improves the Measurements app. For example, it is now easier to calculate a person's height or measure objects quickly and accurately thanks to automatically displayed vertical guides and boundaries. The Measurements app now includes the Ruler view for millimetric data and allows users to save lists of measurements with screenshots for reference.
